Overview

To provide Audiology services at facility level (hospitals and primary healthcare facilities) and community level in the Garden Route District, inclusive of adult and paediatric patients. Assessment, diagnosis, and management of hearing and balance disorders.

Requirements

  • Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Audiologist or Speech Therapist and Audiologist
  • Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as an Audiologist or Speech Therapist and Audiologist
  • Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA in the relevant profession in Audiology or Speech Therapy and Audiology (where applicable in respect of RSA qualified employees)
  • 1-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of SA qualified employees
  • A Minimum of 11 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or Sp eech Therapy and Audiology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform community service, as required in South Africa
  • Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or Speech Therapy and Audiology in respect of SA qualified employees
  • A minimum of 21 years' relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in Audiology or S peech Therapy and Audiology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform community service, as required in South Africa
  • Inherent requirements of the job: Valid driver’s licence (Code B/EB)
  • Competencies (knowledge/skill s): Adhere to all departmental

Responsibilities

  • To provide Audiology services at facility level (hospitals and primary healthcare facilities) and community level in the Garden Route District, inclusive of adult and paediatric patients
  • Assessment, diagnosis, and management of hearing and balance disorders
  • Conducting hearing evaluations, fitting and maintaining hearing aids, providing patient counselling and rehabilitation, implementing hearing conservation programmes, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Provide education and train ing to healthcare professionals, community health workers and patients and plan audiology related health awareness activities according to the health awareness calendar
  • Daily collection and monthly submission of data as per departmental protocols
  • Effecti ve, efficient and optimal use of resource management such as managing stock and ordering consumables
  • Provide relevant relief duty in absence of a peer colleague and provide support to supervisor
  • Adherence to ethical and professional standards are required
