Overview

Assist with the planning, design, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of agricultural and rural infrastructure projects under the supervision of registered engineering professionals. Conduct site inspections and surveys.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 plus a recognised National Diploma in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 6) recognised by SAQA
  • Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Candidate Engineering Technician
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of civil engineering principles and practices, technical drawings, surveying, project cost estimation, construction monitoring, quality control, construction contract administration and technical report writing
  • Knowledge of project management principles and appli cable 250 engineering standards
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in AutoCAD and standard Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively and conduct site inspections within the District and Province
  • Skills And Competencies: Tec hnical problem solving, Teamwork and communication, Planning and organizing, Report writing and documentation, Project implementation and quality assurance, Commitment to ethical standards and public service values
  • A valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning, design, implementation, monitoring and maintenance of agricultural and rural infrastructure projects under the supervision of registered engineering professionals
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys
  • interpret engineering drawings, specifications and bills of quantities
  • and assist with the preparation of designs, drawings, cost estimates and technical specifications
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, drawings, specifications, applicable engineering standards and contractual requirements
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality control, including the measurement and verification of completed work, assessment of contractor progress and preparation of supporting documentation for payment certificates
  • Assist with construction contract administration and monitor compliance with applicable occupational health and safety, environmental and statutory requirements
  • Participate in project planning, site and progress meetings, practical completion inspections and infrastructure condition assessments
  • Liaise with farmers, contractors, consultants, municipalities, departmental officials and other stakeholders regarding the implementation of agricultural infrastructure projects
  • Prepare and maintain t echnical reports, progress reports, drawings, schedules, databases and infrastructure records
  • Provide technical support and guidance to departmental construction teams, artisans, interns and other technical personnel, where required, and participate in co mmunity engagement and capacity -building initiatives
