Oral Hygienist Grade 1 To 3 (Sessional) (28 Hours Per Week)

Overview
Engage in service provision to support the Dept of Health and Wellness and University of the Western Cape public mission. Deliver oral health care through clinical, preventive, and health-promotion services.
Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Oral Hygienist
- Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygieni st
- Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist in respect of RSA qualified employees
- 1- year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa
- Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist in respect of SA qualified employees
- A Minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa
- Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist in respect of SA qualified employees
- A minimum of 21 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Oral Hygienist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa
- Inherent requirements of the job: Valid driver’s licence (Code B/EB)
- Willingness to provide clinical service across the Oral Health platform including Tygerberg, Mitchells Plain, Red Cross and Mitchell’s Plain clinic
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Good interpersonal skills and perform effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Professional ethics
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work under pressure
- Appropriate experience in treating special needs patients
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel and Outlook)
Responsibilities
- Engage in service provision to support the Dept of Health and Wellness and University of the Western Cape public mission
- Deliver oral health care through clinical, preventive, and health-promotion services
- Collaborating with health professionals and comm unities and building professional networks
- Provide expert support, assistance/training to colleagues, community and patients
- Provide oral health care to vulnerable patient groups, ie
- Special needs patients
- Administration duties relating to facility/pat ient admin within scope of Oral Hygienist
- Effective stock management
