Overview

Provide and maintain an effective Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management programme within the Metro District. Support the implementation of the immunisation and medical surveillance programmes for staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683+R254) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
  • A post -basic nursing qualif ication with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC Occupational Health Nursing Science. (R212)
  • OR - A 4 -year Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R1497 or R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. - A postgraduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Occupational Health Nursing
  • Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse
  • Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognizable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years’ appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as Professional Nurse with the SANC in Occupational Health Nursing
  • At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the specific specialty after obtaining the 1-year post -basic qualification or postgraduate diploma in the relevant specialty
  • Inherent requirements of the job: Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s license
  • Required to travel to provide support within the geographical area of the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services
  • Competencies (knowledge/skills): Practical knowledge of Occupational Health and Risk Management
  • Good understanding of the District Health Service (DHS)
  • Knowledge of the ethical and legal framework of the Acts, Regulations, Rules, and policies that governs Occupation Health and Safety
  • Experience in OHS
  • Computer literacy skills (Microsoft Office )

Responsibilities

  • Provide and maintain an effective Occupational Health and Safety Risk Management programme within the Metro District
  • Support the implementation of the immunisation and medical surveillance programmes for staff
  • Ensure an effective provision, coordination, and management of the clinical occupational health services
  • Ensuring effective administration of the occupational health service
  • Participate in Health Risk Assessments within the district
  • Assist in the competency and skill assessment, identification of the need and advice on the education and training of staff
  • Maintains a sound Continuous Professional development
