Overview

Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Psychiatry) providing optimal, holistic, specialised psychiatric nursing care within set standards and professional/legal framework.

Requirements

  • Minimum educational qualification: Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification (R683 plus R880) that 197 PUBLIC allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
  • A post -basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science (R212)
  • OR A 4 year Bachelor D egree in Nursing (R174) or equivalent qualification (R171 plus R1497) that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse
  • A postgraduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Mental Health Nursing
  • Registration with a professional council: Registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse
  • Experience: Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/ recognisable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing
  • Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/ recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing
  • At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/ recognisable experience in Psychiatry after obtaining the 1- year post-basic qualification as mentioned above, or a post -graduate diploma (R635) accredited with the SANC in Mental Health Nursing
  • Inherent

Responsibilities

  • Provide optimal, holistic , specialised psychiatric nursing care within set standards and professional/legal framework
  • Effective utilisation of human, financial and physical resources (equipment and consumables)
  • Participation in appropriate personal /professional development activities: Self, students, other categories of staff
  • Ensure efficient and accurate documentation, statistical data co llection capturing and participation in research activities
  • Assist with the development and the implementation of nursing quality improvement plans, policies and standard operating procedures
  • Display of core values of the Department of Health & Wellness in the WCH
  • In the execution of duties, while practising within the legislation, regulations and protocols applicable to the public service
