Commis Chef
Overview
The Commis Chef is responsible for the food preparation and presentation of exceptional culinary products for restaurant, banqueting, and hotel operations while adhering to operational excellence standards and customer experience expectations. This role involves supporting the Chef de Partie in food preparation, maintaining stock control, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and engaging with guests to provide professional service.
Requirements
- 1-Year Culinary Certification or equivalent national qualification in culinary skills at Certificate level
- Membership with South African Chef’s Association and other relevant culinary accreditation
- 6 months experience in culinary operation
Responsibilities
- Keep up to date with food products, trends, and cooking methodologies
- Prepare mise-en-place, conduct checks and preparations for service
- Support Chef de Partie in food preparation according to recipe guidelines
- Control food stock and minimize waste
- Report on food stock shortages and maintain cleanliness
- Comply with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental regulations
- Connect with guests, provide a warm welcome, and ensure customer satisfaction
- Take guest orders accurately and explain menu items
- Handle customer complaints and requests
