Job Description:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Cape Town have an opening for a security guard to provide security services in accordance with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 as amended for the Dis-Chem Group that adheres to industry regulations and meets Dis-Chem’s security requirements to protect assets, property, and staff by fostering a safe and secure environment, by spotting signs of criminal activity or disorder, and by looking into disturbances.
Minimum Requirements:
Essential:
- Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate
- Grade C accreditation with the PSIRA
- A general minimum exposure of at least 3 years in the retail industry, such as shopping malls and warehouses
Advantageous:
- At least 1 year specific previous experience in a similar role
Job Specification:
- Obtaining assistance – In extremely dangerous situations (such as armed robbery attacks or assaults with lethal weapons), call the police immediately to avoid loss of life or property.
- Take detailed notes on unusual events and daily activities.
- Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity from occurring in the first place.
- Receive phone calls, respond to text and email messages, and run critical errands for the department in accordance with Dis-Chem and industry standard operating procedures.
- Report any suspicious incidents to management in detail, followed by the submission of a written detailed report as soon as possible.
- Contact policing and emergency services as needed, and make written or verbal reports to law enforcement officers as required by law and in accordance with Dis-Chem procedures.
- When problem situations or crises arise or have been dealt with, keep an eye on the surroundings and report to management on any findings or changes that worsen the situation.
- Following a crisis, provide management, the police, or the appropriate authorities (such as the fire services in the case of a fire outbreak) with a detailed written report detailing the incident and your activities in relation to it.
