Health and Safety Representative - Karo Platinum Zimbabwe

Overview

The Health and Safety Representative is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment on construction sites in compliance with Zimbabwean safety standards and regulations. This role involves conducting safety inductions, leading safety awareness campaigns, regularly inspecting sites for hazards, managing incident reporting, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and coordinating safety concerns among workers and management.

Requirements

  • Degree in Geography and Environmental Science, Applied Environmental Science or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Zimbabwean occupational health and safety legislation
  • Basic first aid certificate is an added advantage
  • Previous two years’ experience as a Safety Representative or similar role in construction
  • Good understanding of construction site hazards
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in safety and health
  • Experience in construction/mining is an added advantage
  • Ability to conduct safety training and inspections
  • Must be medically fit

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety inductions and toolbox talks for all workers and contractors
  • Promote a safety culture among site personnel through continuous engagement and awareness campaigns
  • Regularly inspect the construction site for hazards and unsafe practices
  • Ensure the proper use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents and follow-up actions
  • Ensure compliance with Zimbabwean Occupational Safety and Health Act and other relevant regulations
  • Assist in preparation for safety audits and inspections by authorities
  • Identify potential hazards related to construction activities
  • Work with the safety team to develop and implement corrective measures
  • Maintain safety documentation, checklists, and records
  • Prepare regular safety reports for site management
  • Liaise with contractors, workers, and management to address safety concerns
  • Ensure safety signage, barriers, and warning systems are in place and visible
