Industrial design assistant - Solidworks specialist - Beekman Cape Town (Temp)
Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative Industrial Design Assistant to support the design and product development process by converting concepts, sketches and prototypes into accurate 3D CAD models and production-ready technical drawings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Industrial Design, Product Design or a related field.
- Practical experience using SolidWorks to develop 3D parts, assemblies and mechanisms.
- Basic proficiency in Rhino and Adobe Photoshop.
- Understanding of technical drawing standards, dimensions, tolerances and engineering documentation.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes, material properties and assembly requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
Responsibilities
- Convert 2D sketches, concepts and prototypes into accurate 3D CAD models using SolidWorks and Rhino.
- Create and maintain detailed 2D engineering drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, exploded views and assembly instructions.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), material lists and component drawings for purchasing and manufacturing.
- Assist with design modifications to improve product functionality, appearance and manufacturability.
- Prepare files for 3D printing and digital fabrication.
- Support prototype testing, product validation and ongoing design improvements.
- Collaborate with industrial designers, engineers, purchasing teams and manufacturing personnel.
- Ensure all technical drawings and design documentation are accurate and up to date.
