Investigator
Overview
The Investigator is responsible for managing and guiding the investigative function, overseeing caseloads, quality control, and investigative policies. The role involves liaising with internal and external parties, resource management, and evidence handling, while ensuring compliance and undertaking investigations of fraud, corruption, and misconduct.
Requirements
- National High Certificate in Policing or Police administration (Essential)
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) Advantageous
- PSIRA A Grade (Desirable)
- Background as a member of the South African Police Service reaching at least the level of inspector
- Investigation of retail crime in particular armed robberies and burglaries
- Experience in the investigation of in-house matters with a strong knowledge of employee/ employer relations
- Investigation techniques including the use of the polygraph and or Voice Stress analysis test
- Proven ability to train others in the specified field of expertise
- Working background in Africa and in hostile environments
- Knowledge and experience with Criminal Investigations, Criminal Procedures and Acts
- Good Interpersonal relationships with the ability to influence decision making based on subject matter expert knowledge and experience
- Exceptional report writing skills
Responsibilities
- Conducting investigations of fraud, corruption, or financial misconduct, and completing reports with findings and recommendations.
- Monitoring the progress of investigations and cases at SAPS and Courts.
- Conducting security awareness training for employees and service providers.
- Mentoring team members to identify previously undetected fraud, waste, or abuse through proactive or reactive research and analysis.
- Presenting issues of concern, citing regulatory violations and alleging schemes or scams.
- Organizing case files and documenting all steps taken accurately and thoroughly.
- Identifying opportunities to improve policies, procedures, or processes and making recommendations.
- Acting as a subject matter expert on criminal investigation and processes.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders and keeping complainants informed of progress.
- Drafting procedures and work instructions in the specific field of expertise.
- Managing external vendors and contractors.
- Interviewing witnesses and suspects and analyzing data for trends and gaps.
- Composing correspondence, reports, and briefs.
- Compiling monthly reports on work activity.
