Artisan Assistant
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Overview
Perform minor maintenance and repairs to hospital buildings, infrastructure, fixtures, fittings and equipment. Assist with plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, glazing, mechanical and general building maintenance activities.
Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Grade 10 (or equivalent)
- Experience: Appropriate experience in general building maintenance, minor repairs and/or assisting Artisans with maintenance activities in a building, institutional or similar environment
- Inhere nt requirements of the job: Valid Code B/EB/C1 driver’s licence
- Ability to perform heavy physical labour
- Available to perform standby and overtime duties
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Basic technical and maintenance knowledge
- Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair work and safely use hand and power tools
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements and safe working practices
- Good practical problem - solving skills, technical aptitude and attention to detail
- Good planning, organi sational, time-management and record- keeping skills
- Ability to follow technical instructions and work independently and as part of a team
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise work, demonstrate reliability and accountability, and exercise care in the use of tools, equipment and materials
Responsibilities
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs to hospital buildings, infrastructure, fixtures, fittings and equipment
- Assist with plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, glazing, mechanical and general building maintenance activities
- Assist Artisans with repa irs, installations, alterations, preventative maintenance and minor infrastructure improvement and refurbishment projects
- Prepare work areas, tools, equipment and materials and assist with dismantling, installation, assembly and movement of equipment and components
