Overview
Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Psychiatry) providing optimal, holistic, specialised psychiatric nursing care within set standards and professional/legal framework.
Requirements
- Basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification allowing registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
- A post-basic nursing qualification in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science accredited with the SANC.
- A 4 year Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification allowing registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse.
- A postgraduate diploma accredited with the SANC in Mental Health Nursing.
- Grade 1: Minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration with the SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
- Grade 2: Minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing, with at least 10 years in Psychiatry.
- Willingness to work shifts, night duty, overtime, public holidays and weekends.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies of the Department of Health Western Cape.
- Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal).
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Skills to plan, organise and coordinate the service by analysing, problem solving and decision making.
- Ability to function independently, as well as in a multi-disciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Provide optimal, holistic, specialised psychiatric nursing care.
- Effective utilisation of human, financial and physical resources.
- Participation in personal/professional development activities.
- Ensure efficient and accurate documentation and statistical data collection.
- Assist with the development and implementation of nursing quality improvement plans, policies and standard operating procedures.
