Overview

Requirements

  • Grade 1: Experience: No experience after registration with the Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an ultra -sonographer in respect of RSA qualified employee who performed Community Service as required in South Africa
  • 1-year relevant experience a fter registration with HPCSA in respect of foreign qualified employees
  • Grade 2: Experience: A minimum of 10 years appropriate /recognisable experience after registration with HPCSA as an ultra-sonographer in respect of RSA qualified employees who performed community Service
  • 11 years’ experience after registration with HPCSA in respect of foreign qualified employees
  • Grade 3: Experience: A minimum of 20 years appropriate /recognisable experience after registration with HPCSA as an ultra-sonographer in respect of RSA qualified employees who performed Community Service
  • 21 years’ experience after registration with HPCSA in respect of foreign qualified employees of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa
  • Grade 12/ Senior Certificate
  • Degree/ National Diploma in Ultrasound
  • Current registration with HPCSA as Sonographer
  • Knowledge, Skills, Training and Competencies required for the post: Sound knowledge of Obstetrics and Gynaecology ultrasound
  • Sound 110 knowledge of general ultrasound scans
  • Sound knowledge of Ultrasound procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety policies, regulations and acts
  • Sound report writing and administrative skills
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance procedure and methods
  • S ound communication, interpersonal, problem solving, teaching and training skills
  • Good interpersonal relations and ability to perform with a team
  • Computer literacy

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality ultrasound services consistent with scope of practice and clinical standards
  • Provide high quality ultrasound services according to the patient’s needs
  • To promote good health practices and ensure optimal patient care
  • Execute all ultrasound procedure completely to prevent complications
  • Provide general administrative duties as required
  • Provide guidance and supervision to junior staff
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team as part of medical and allied team
  • Participate in institutional radiographic policy making and planning for service delivery
  • Promote Batho Pele Principles in the execution of all duties for effective service delivery
  • Give factual information to patients and clients on ultrasound examinations
  • Participate in departmental Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement Programmes and National Core Standards
  • Inspect and utilise equipment professionally to ensure that they comply with safety standards
  • Develop protocols to ensure that sonographic services comply with the required prescripts
  • Participate in ultrasound quality assurance programmes
  • Participate in Continued Professi onal Development (CPD) programmes
  • Compile report and memos as required in the working environment
  • Assist with ultrasound patient booking
  • Perform other duties as per delegation by radiography management
