Overview

The Business Optimisation Engineer acts as an intermediary between business and IT delivery teams, fulfilling a cross-functional role by facilitating effective communication and reporting progress to stakeholders. This role entails obtaining expertise in operational systems, identifying business optimisation opportunities, and designing cost-effective solutions. The engineer follows a lean project methodology through various phases such as feasibility, initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure, ensuring documentation and lessons learned are appropriately managed.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or Equivalent (Essential)
  • B.Eng Industrial Engineering (Essential)
  • Honours Industrial Engineering (Advantageous)
  • 2 years’ experience in Process Improvement environment (Essential)
  • Project Management experience (Advantageous)
  • Knowledge of mathematical modelling, simulation modelling and optimization
  • Extensive knowledge of emerging industry practices when solving business problems
  • Must be passionate and knowledgeable about continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Act as the intermediary between business and IT & Innovation delivery teams
  • Engage and facilitate effective communication flow between business units
  • Provide progress and status reporting to all stakeholders
  • Obtain proficiency in operational systems relevant to projects
  • Become a subject matter expert in areas within the business
  • Leverage available tools & platforms for enhanced solutioning
  • Follow the lean project methodology to coordinate project activities
  • Understand business needs and translate them into a cost/benefit analysis
  • Scope projects for stakeholder alignment
  • Plan project activities and risk mitigation strategies
  • Implement project plans and perform quality control on solutions
  • Track project progress and ensure change management is considered
  • Closely monitor projects and manage scope creep, risks, and decisions
  • Ensure appropriate closure of projects with documentation
  • Design processes aimed at increasing productivity and reducing costs
  • Innovate solutions that are smart, scalable, and maintainable
  • Identify impactful business optimisation opportunities
