Business Optimisation Engineer
Overview
The Business Optimisation Engineer acts as an intermediary between business and IT delivery teams, fulfilling a cross-functional role by facilitating effective communication and reporting progress to stakeholders. This role entails obtaining expertise in operational systems, identifying business optimisation opportunities, and designing cost-effective solutions. The engineer follows a lean project methodology through various phases such as feasibility, initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure, ensuring documentation and lessons learned are appropriately managed.
Requirements
- Grade 12 or Equivalent (Essential)
- B.Eng Industrial Engineering (Essential)
- Honours Industrial Engineering (Advantageous)
- 2 years’ experience in Process Improvement environment (Essential)
- Project Management experience (Advantageous)
- Knowledge of mathematical modelling, simulation modelling and optimization
- Extensive knowledge of emerging industry practices when solving business problems
- Must be passionate and knowledgeable about continuous improvement

Responsibilities
- Act as the intermediary between business and IT & Innovation delivery teams
- Engage and facilitate effective communication flow between business units
- Provide progress and status reporting to all stakeholders
- Obtain proficiency in operational systems relevant to projects
- Become a subject matter expert in areas within the business
- Leverage available tools & platforms for enhanced solutioning
- Follow the lean project methodology to coordinate project activities
- Understand business needs and translate them into a cost/benefit analysis
- Scope projects for stakeholder alignment
- Plan project activities and risk mitigation strategies
- Implement project plans and perform quality control on solutions
- Track project progress and ensure change management is considered
- Closely monitor projects and manage scope creep, risks, and decisions
- Ensure appropriate closure of projects with documentation
- Design processes aimed at increasing productivity and reducing costs
- Innovate solutions that are smart, scalable, and maintainable
- Identify impactful business optimisation opportunities
