Overview
To own the performance of the new vehicle sales department end to end: volume, gross profit, stock, people and customer satisfaction. The Sales Manager is accountable for hitting BMW South Africa's allocated targets, for the profitability of every deal that leaves the department, and for building a sales team that consistently outperforms the market in the region.
Requirements
- Proven sales management experience within a BMW franchise, specifically in new vehicle sales.
- A documented and consistent track record of achieving or exceeding new vehicle volume and gross profit targets.
- Demonstrable experience leading and developing a sales team.
- Working knowledge of dealer management systems, CRM platforms and BMW retail processes.
- Strong commercial acumen: deal structuring, margin management, stock control and floorplan understanding.
- Valid Code B (08) South African driver's licence, unendorsed.
- Clear criminal record and clear credit record (ITC).
- Contactable references from recent employers.
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 minimum.
Responsibilities
- Deliver monthly, quarterly and annual new vehicle unit targets as agreed with the Dealer Principal and BMW South Africa.
- Manage gross profit per unit, protect margin on every transaction and control discounting within approved parameters.
- Structure, review and approve deals; authorise trade-in valuations within mandate and escalate beyond it.
- Drive attachment of BMW Financial Services finance, insurance, Motorplan extensions and Original BMW Accessories in partnership with the F&I department.
- Forecast accurately and report weekly and monthly on pipeline, conversion and closure against target.
- Order, allocate and manage new vehicle stock and the demonstrator fleet against forecast demand and model mix.
- Control stock ageing and floorplan interest; identify and action slow-moving units before they erode margin.
- Manage dealer-to-dealer transfers and liaise with BMW South Africa on allocation, pipeline and delivery timelines.
- Maintain accurate stock records and ensure every unit is correctly specified, prepared and presented.
- Lead, coach and hold accountable the new vehicle sales consultant team; set individual targets and manage performance against them.
- Run daily and weekly sales meetings with a disciplined focus on activity levels, pipeline quality and closure.
- Ensure every consultant completes and maintains BMW product and process certification, including electrified product training.
- Recruit, onboard and develop sales talent; manage underperformance constructively and formally where required.
- Own the department's Customer Satisfaction Index performance and drive it above BMW South Africa's national benchmark.
- Ensure full compliance with BMW corporate identity, retail process and presentation standards on the showroom floor.
- Resolve escalated customer complaints promptly and to the standard the brand expects.
- Work with the Dealer Principal and marketing on local campaigns, digital lead sources, database activity and events.
- Ensure disciplined CRM usage — every lead captured, actioned within agreed response times and followed to conclusion.
- Ensure departmental compliance with POPIA, FICA, the Consumer Protection Act, the National Credit Act and BMW SA policy.
