Overview
The Department of Infrastructure within the Western Cape Government is seeking a Professional Electrical Engineer to engage in a variety of innovative and complex engineering activities aimed at advancing technology and engineering applications in the education infrastructure sector.
Requirements
- An appropriate Electrical Engineering Degree [B Eng/BSc (Eng)] or relevant qualification
- Three years post qualification engineering experience
- Compulsory registration with ECSA as a professional engineer
- A valid code B driving licence
Responsibilities
- Design new systems to solve practical engineering challenges and improve efficiency and enhance safety
- Plan, design, operate and maintain engineering projects
- Develop cost-effective solutions according to standards
- Evaluate existing technical manuals, standard drawings and procedures to incorporate new technology
- Develop tender specifications
- Ensure planning and design compliance with sound engineering principles and norms
- Approve engineering works according to prescribed norms and standards
- Ensure training and development of technicians, technologists, and candidate engineers
- Supervise engineering work and processes
- Manage resources and prepare and consolidate inputs for resource utilisation
- Monitor and control expenditure
- Continuous professional development to keep up with new technologies and procedures
- Conduct literature studies on engineering technology to improve expertise
- Liaise with relevant bodies/councils on engineering-related matters
