Overview

A leading engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Resident Engineer to join a major roadworks project in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical oversight, contract administration, construction supervision and stakeholder coordination, while ensuring that the project is delivered in accordance with the required specifications, standards, quality, safety and environmental requirements.

Requirements

  • BSc, BEng or BTech Engineering degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professionally registered with ECSA as: Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr. Eng Tech)
  • Minimum 15 years' post-qualification experience in civil engineering and/or roads projects
  • Successfully completed a minimum of five (5) rehabilitation or resurfacing projects in the capacity of Resident Engineer / Employer’s Agent’s Representative / Engineer’s Representative
  • Proven experience in roadworks, including earthworks, pavement layer works, concrete pavements, asphalt surfacing, and drainage
  • Sound knowledge of asphalt and concrete pavement works, materials engineering, quality control and quality assurance procedures, COTO specifications, contract administration, contractor and subcontractor management, and occupational health and safety legislation
  • Experience administering contracts under GCC, FIDIC, NEC or similar conditions of contract
  • Proficient in the use of computer systems and standard software applications
  • SACPCMP registration, such as Pr.CPM, will be advantageous
  • Previous experience on City of Cape Town or Local Municipal projects will be advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer road construction contracts
  • Act as the Employer’s Agent’s Representative / Engineer’s Representative in accordance with GCC/FIDIC contracts
  • Oversee contractors and monitor construction quality
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings and applicable standards
  • Review contractor programmes, payment certificates and claims
  • Coordinate site meetings and prepare progress reports
  • Manage health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and project stakeholders
  • Mentor Assistant Resident Engineers and site staff
  • Manage contractors, subcontractors and site supervision teams
  • Monitor construction implementation and ensure that works are executed in accordance with approved designs and specifications
  • Provide technical guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle
