CATHODIC PROTECTION ENGINEER
Overview
Rand Water is currently looking for the Cathodic Protection Engineer to provide professional engineering input in the planning, design and implementation of infrastructure necessary to control corrosion of Rand Water’s large diameter steel bulk water pipeline network by means of Cathodic Protection systems.
Requirements
- B Eng Electrical or B Eng Metallurgical Engineering degree
- 3-4 years’ experience in the design of CP infrastructure
- Registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA
- Requirement to achieve NACE accreditation to level 2/3 within 3 years of commencing employment
- Current NACE CP level 2/3 Qualification would be advantageous
- Coating Inspector Program (CIP) 1 will be an advantage
Responsibilities
- Detailed designs for Cathodic Protection systems including calculations, design reports, drawings, technical specifications, bills of quantities and other tender document inputs
- Design of Cathodic protection systems including anode ground beds, impressed current systems and sacrificial anodes
- Analyze CP Survey results as per SANS and NACE standards
- Giving direction to the performance of Cathodic Protection Field Surveys and analyzing field data
- Continuously improve Rand Water CP procedures and specifications
- Liaising with other Pipeline Owners, Eskom and Transnet for Cathodic Protection Interference studies
- Contribute to the interface with other engineering design disciplines and project teams
- Review contractors’ designs and ensure compliance to Rand Water standards
- Participate in scoping meetings and design reviews
- Witnessing Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) of installed Cathodic Protection Systems
