CLEANERS
Overview
Successful applicants will help maintain clean, hygienic, and safe hospital environments. The role involves cleaning wards, departments, kitchens, corridors, entrances, and other designated areas. Cleaners must also follow hospital waste management and infection prevention procedures.
Requirements
- ABET Level 4, Grade 10, or Grade 12 educational qualifications
- Ability to read and write
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Ability to work effectively within a team
- Physical fitness for strenuous cleaning duties
- Willingness to rotate between wards and departments
- Willingness to work shifts
- Availability to work weekends and public holidays
- Honest, reliable, and responsible work habits
- Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals
- Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices (advantageous)
Responsibilities
- Cleaning floors, walls, windows, doors, furniture, lockers, beds, curtains, blinds, and other surfaces
- Maintaining external areas such as corridors and entrances
- Removing and disposing of waste correctly
- Following hospital waste management policies
- Following infection prevention and control standards
- Cleaning staff and patient kitchen areas
- Cleaning refrigerators and microwave ovens
- Washing dishes, cups, and utensils
- Safely using and storing cleaning chemicals
- Maintaining cleaning equipment and materials
- Cleaning spills immediately to prevent accidents
- Replenishing soap and toilet paper
- Replenishing deodoriser blocks and air fresheners
- Completing daily cleanliness checklists
- Completing attendance and delegation registers
- Reporting maintenance defects and hazards
- Reporting shortages to supervisors or unit managers
