Finance Manager
Overview
The Finance Manager will provide strong financial leadership at site, ensuring robust financial controls, accurate reporting, effective cost management, working-capital discipline and meaningful commercial insight to support operational decision-making. This is a hands-on site-based leadership role, requiring a finance professional who is comfortable working closely with operational stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving cost optimization, accountability, financial discipline and operational performance across the site.
Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day site finance function and ensure timely, accurate and complete financial information.
- Manage monthly close, management accounts, financial reporting and variance analysis.
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment and compliance with applicable IFRS and company policies.
- Provide insightful analysis of financial and operational performance to the CFO and site leadership.
- Ensure integrity of the general ledger, cost centres, accruals, provisions and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Drive resolution of audit findings and control deficiencies.
- Partner with operational management to drive cost per tonne, productivity and profitability.
- Establish and monitor cost drivers across site functions.
- Analyse fixed, variable and semi-variable costs and identify opportunities for sustainable cost reduction.
- Challenge operational assumptions and ensure that cost reductions translate into genuine efficiency improvements.
- Develop and maintain operational cost dashboards and KPIs.
- Support management in understanding the financial impact of production volumes, grades, recoveries, plant performance and operational decisions.
- Drive accountability for budget and cost performance across cost-centre owners.
- Lead the site budgeting and forecasting process.
- Prepare and maintain rolling forecasts, including production, revenue, operating costs, capital expenditure and cash requirements.
- Perform budget-versus-actual analysis and identify corrective actions.
- Support scenario modelling and sensitivity analysis for operational and commercial decisions.
- Ensure operational plans are financially achievable and aligned with the company’s strategic objectives.
- Provide end-to-end oversight of the site creditors function, including invoice processing, verification, approvals, payment preparation and supplier reconciliations.
- Ensure invoices are processed accurately, completely and within agreed timelines.
- Monitor the three-way matching process between purchase orders, goods receipts and supplier invoices.
- Ensure appropriate accruals for goods and services received but not yet invoiced.
- Monitor outstanding GRVs, unmatched invoices, aged creditors and blocked invoices.
- Drive timely resolution of creditor queries and discrepancies with Procurement, Stores, operational departments and suppliers.
- Review and challenge creditor reconciliations and supplier statements.
- Ensure payments are made in accordance with approved payment terms, cash-flow priorities and delegated authority.
- Monitor overdue creditors and escalate potential supply or operational risks to the CFO.
- Strengthen controls over duplicate payments, non-PO invoices, retrospective POs, emergency purchases and other process exceptions.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties across purchasing, receipting, invoice processing, approval and payment.
- Develop and monitor creditors KPIs, including invoice turnaround time, aged creditors, unmatched invoices, overdue GRVs and payment exceptions.
- Ensure the creditors team operates within agreed month-end and invoice cut-off timelines.
- Identify opportunities to improve the procure-to-pay process and reduce manual intervention, errors and payment leakage.
- Drive strong working-capital discipline at site.
- Monitor creditors, GRVs, purchase orders, accruals, inventory and other working-capital drivers.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and appropriate accruals for goods and services received.
- Support the CFO in maintaining accurate short-term cash-flow forecasts.
- Identify opportunities to reduce cash leakage and improve cash conversion.
- Provide financial oversight of inventory management and stock controls.
- Ensure effective reconciliation between physical inventory, operational systems and the general ledger.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete and excess stock.
- Ensure appropriate accounting and control over capital expenditure, work-in-progress and fixed assets.
- Challenge capitalisation versus operating expenditure and ensure compliance with accounting policies.
- Support asset verification, impairment assessments and asset disposal processes.
- Partner closely with Supply Chain to strengthen procurement and procure-to-pay controls.
- Provide financial oversight of purchasing, commitments, contract spend and supplier payments.
- Monitor supplier spend against approved budgets and contracts.
- Support contract commercial management and identify financial risks and opportunities.
- Ensure appropriate financial controls over emergency purchases, deviations and non-standard procurement.
- Maintain a strong site control environment.
- Ensure adherence to delegated authorities, financial policies and approved processes.
- Identify control weaknesses and implement practical remediation plans.
- Drive segregation of duties and appropriate approval controls.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of audit actions.
- Promote a culture of financial accountability and integrity.
- Act as the key finance business partner to the Site General Manager and operational leadership team.
