Overview

The Aircraft Assistant will support Mechanical Technicians with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities in an aircraft maintenance environment. The role involves practical tasks such as assisting with aircraft interiors, cargo compartments, tooling, and general maintenance support while following company procedures and applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification
  • At least one year of aviation maintenance experience
  • Hands-on exposure to aircraft maintenance
  • Basic knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices
  • Basic understanding of aircraft safety requirements
  • Knowledge of aircraft hand tools and workshop equipment
  • Understanding of aircraft maintenance environments
  • Basic knowledge of aircraft interior components
  • Basic knowledge of cargo compartment components
  • Basic knowledge of housekeeping and FOD control
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Good organisational skills

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Mechanical Technicians with scheduled aircraft maintenance
  • Supporting technicians during unscheduled maintenance activities
  • Stripping and reassembling aircraft interiors and cargo compartments
  • Removing and reinstalling cargo liners under supervision
  • Removing and reinstalling floor panels and interior panels
  • Removing and reinstalling insulation blankets
  • Assisting with aircraft component removal and installation
  • Helping technicians open and close aircraft access panels
  • Preparing aircraft and work areas before maintenance begins
  • Cleaning aircraft structures, components and work areas
  • Moving aircraft components, tools and equipment
  • Retrieving tools, materials and consumables when required
  • Supporting aircraft inspections by providing access to technicians
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards in work areas
  • Cleaning and returning tools and equipment after use
  • Supporting other Heavy Maintenance sections when required
  • Reporting unsafe conditions, hazards and damaged equipment
  • Performing other reasonable duties assigned by management
