Requirements

  • LLB degree or equivalent qualification (essential)
  • Registered attorney with a valid practising certificate
  • Minimum of six years' experience in a senior legal advisory role or similar capacity
  • Proven expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements including loan, service, sale, and financial contracts
  • Demonstrable experience providing legal advice to senior stakeholders on complex legal and regulatory matters
  • Strong knowledge of South African and cross-border regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify and mitigate legal risks effectively
  • Proficient in managing external legal service providers and overseeing legal compliance initiatives
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, suitable for diverse audiences and stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams, maintaining integrity and a proactive problem-solving approach

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice and support to business units on commercial agreements, regulatory compliance, and legal documentation
  • Draft, review, and facilitate various commercial contracts, including loan, service, sale, and financial agreements
  • Oversee and manage external legal service providers to ensure effective resolution of complex legal matters
  • Develop, review, and implement legal policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory compliance across the Group
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support legal aspects of business initiatives, product launches, and strategic projects
  • Conduct legal due diligence for third-party engagements and employee-related matters, providing recommendations where necessary
  • Prepare and facilitate board resolutions and legal correspondence, including letters of demand and formal notices
  • Advise on emerging laws and regulatory developments affecting business operations, both locally and cross-border
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies to influence legal outcomes
  • Promote a culture of legal risk awareness and compliance through training, mentorship, and ongoing stakeholder engagement
