Overview
The Senior Metallurgist will lead a processing team to ensure efficient operation of the Karo Concentrator. They will provide metallurgical leadership during the construction, commissioning, start-up, and optimization of the PGM concentrator plant, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable achievement of design throughput, recovery, and concentrate quality targets.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or related discipline
- MBA will be an added advantage
- Minimum 8-10 years of mineral processing/metallurgical experience
- At least 5 years in PGM concentrator operations
- Proven experience in concentrator commissioning and plant start-up
- Experience with crushing and milling circuits
- Experience with PGM flotation circuits
- Experience with thickening and tailings management
- Experience with metallurgical accounting systems
- Experience with process optimization
- Previous greenfield project experience highly desirable
Responsibilities
- Identifies opportunities for operational and capital budgets
- Supports plant construction by reviewing process designs
- Leads and supports commissioning of crushing, milling, flotation, thickening, and tailings systems
- Develops and implements commissioning and start-up procedures
- Monitors and optimizes plant performance
- Manages metallurgical accounting, reconciliation, and performance reporting
- Conducts metallurgical investigations, plant surveys, and process improvement projects
- Oversees laboratory activities, sampling systems, and metallurgical test work
- Develops operating procedures, process standards, and operational readiness programs
- Promotes compliance with safety, health, environmental, and quality standards
- Coordinates process and maintenance requirements
- Implements and maintains sound people management practices
- Carries out continual improvement projects
- Ensures that the tailings dam is constructed and managed professionally
- Ensures adequate operating procedures for all critical tasks and employee training
