Overview

Perform a full range of obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound scans, including routine, level II/III, and specialised assessments with adherence to departmental protocols. Use advanced ultrasound equipment to produce accurate, high-quality diagnostic images. Identify normal and abnormal findings, and provide clear, structured reports. Deliver compassionate, patient-centred care, ensuring comfort and dignity throughout the imaging process. Manage the administration and care of ultrasound equipment within the department. Participate actively in departmental meetings, case discussions, and presentations.

Requirements

  • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Ultrasound Radiography.
  • Registration with the HPCSA as a Radiographer in Ultrasound.
  • Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA in Ultrasound Radiography for RSA-qualified employees; one year relevant experience for foreign qualified employees.
  • Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years relevant experience for RSA-qualified employees; minimum of 11 years for foreign qualified employees.
  • Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years relevant experience for RSA-qualified employees; minimum of 21 years for foreign qualified employees.
  • Comprehensive sonography education and extensive hands-on experience, particularly in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Understanding of human anatomy and physiology, and knowledge of disease pathologies as they relate to sonographic findings.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, maintaining patient confidentiality, and managing a large clinical workload.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ultrasound scans and produce diagnostic images.
  • Identify findings and provide structured reports.
  • Manage ultrasound equipment and ensure quality assurance.
  • Support junior staff and students through mentorship.
