Overview
Exxaro Resources is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer for a 2-year fixed-term position at Matla Coal in Kriel, Mpumalanga. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing civil engineering projects that comply with industry standards and regulations. You will perform site inspections, prepare detailed engineering plans and cost estimates, and work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects meet safety, environmental, and legal requirements within the South African coal mining sector.
Requirements
- BEng Civil Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
- BSc Civil Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
- B Tech Civil Engineering (Essential/Minimum)
- Minimum of 5 years' operational experience in Civil Design and Maintenance; Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment; Procurement, Project Engineering, Contract, Project Management (Essential/Minimum)
- Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
- Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
- Strong knowledge of South African civil engineering standards, codes, and regulations, especially those pertaining to coal mining operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, and related civil works.
- Sound understanding of environmental, health, and safety legislation applicable to the Mpumalanga region and South African mining industry.
- Proficient in the use of civil engineering design software and tools for drafting, modelling, and cost estimation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify risks and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and provide mentorship to junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and oversee construction and maintenance of civil engineering projects within the Matla Coal business unit, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
- Conduct site inspections and evaluate project progress to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and environmental regulations applicable in Mpumalanga and South Africa.
- Prepare detailed engineering plans, drawings, and cost estimates for infrastructure projects including roads, drainage systems, and related civil works.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, contractors, and other engineers to ensure smooth execution and successful delivery of projects on contract basis.
- Identify potential engineering challenges and develop effective solutions to mitigate risks and enhance project outcomes.
- Monitor and control project budgets and timelines to optimize resource utilisation and meet contractual obligations.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and environmental regulations, including health and safety standards specific to the coal mining industry and the Mpumalanga region.
- Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and documentation required for project approvals and audits.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff and contractors to promote skills development and professional growth within the team.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in civil engineering technologies and practices to continuously improve project delivery and operational efficiency.
