Requirements
- Legal degree (LLB) from a recognised university; admission as an attorney or advocate is essential

- Proven expertise in compliance management, regulatory frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary legal and compliance teams
- Strong understanding of commercial contracts, dispute resolution, and litigation management
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment
- Proficient knowledge of South African corporate governance and statutory requirements

Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive legal strategies to support the organisation's business objectives and ensure compliance with South African laws and regulations
- Lead and manage the legal and compliance teams, fostering collaboration and professional development
- Oversee risk management initiatives, analysing potential legal risks and developing mitigation plans to protect the company's interests
- Advise senior management on corporate governance matters, regulatory changes, and emerging legal issues affecting the retail sector
- Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts to safeguard the company's rights and reduce exposure to legal disputes
- Coordinate dispute resolution efforts, including litigation management and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms
- Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements, embedding compliance frameworks within business operations
- Promote ethical business practices and organisational integrity, aligning compliance policies with sustainability goals
- Engage with external legal advisors, regulators, and industry bodies to maintain updated knowledge and influence regulatory outcomes
- Provide regular reports to executive leadership on legal risks, compliance status, and strategic legal initiatives
