Senior Quantity Surveyor – Building Construction
Overview
A leading building contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its Cape Town team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the commercial and financial management of multiple construction projects, from project award through to final account. This role requires a commercially astute professional with strong contractual, financial, and cost management expertise who can drive profitability, manage project risks, and ensure the successful commercial delivery of projects. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will also provide guidance and mentorship to junior Quantity Surveyors while working closely with project teams, clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- National Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying
- CCS/Candy Certification
- Training or practical experience in JBCC and NEC contracts
- SACQSP registration will be advantageous
- Minimum 8 years' experience in the construction industry
- Proven experience within building construction projects
- Strong commercial, contractual, and financial management capability
Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial and financial aspects of multiple construction projects from award to final account
- Ensure accurate cost control and maximise project profitability
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting
- Prepare and monitor project cash flow forecasts
- Oversee subcontractor procurement and commercial negotiations
- Administer subcontract agreements and manage contractual obligations
- Prepare and review interim valuations and payment certificates
- Manage variation orders, claims, and extension of time (EOT) submissions
- Review and finalise project final accounts
- Monitor project costs and provide regular profitability reporting
- Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation
- Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers on commercial matters
- Provide commercial support and guidance to project teams
- Mentor and support Junior Quantity Surveyors
- Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, company procedures, and project controls
- Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating commercial risks
