Overview

To manufacture, repair, maintain and refurbish mechanical components and equipment used in fishing operations, cold storage facilities, and marine vessels.

Requirements

  • Grade Test Certificate as a Turner Artisan (Red Seal preferred)
  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years' post-trade experience in a marine, fishing, or engineering environment
  • Experience operating conventional lathes and milling machines
  • Marine or fishing industry experience will be advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Operate conventional and/or CNC lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, and grinding equipment
  • Manufacture and repair shafts, bushes, sleeves, bearings, pulleys, couplings, and other mechanical components
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, verniers, dial indicators, and other measuring instruments
  • Conduct maintenance and repair work on fish processing equipment and factory machinery
  • Assist with breakdown repairs to minimize operational downtime
  • Refurbish worn mechanical components to extend equipment life
  • Support planned maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedules
  • Carry out machining and repair work on vessel components where required
  • Repair shafts, pump components, winch parts, hydraulic system components, and other marine equipment
  • Assist during vessel maintenance periods and dry-docking activities
